How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Well Through the Fall08/24/2016 Your air conditioner has worked hard this summer and we still have more hot weather to go. Just because the date on the calendar has switched over to fall doesn’t mean you’re through with your AC for the season. Keeping up with annual AC maintenance, while also following a couple other tips, can help you maintain your air conditioner while remaining cozy too. Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit Debris can pile up around your outside unit, particularly during the fall. When the time arrives to rake up the leaves in your yard, at least rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can hinder air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down sooner. We want your air conditioner to last as long as possible. Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat Have your thermostat set at the highest temperature you can while still staying comfortable. Whenever possible, take advantage of additional cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to reach that temperature. You may think shutting off your unit completely will save on energy and help your system, but that makes more work for it to make up when you turn it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is another thing that could lead to premature system failure. Keep Up With AC Maintenance Keeping a well-maintained system with normal, annual AC maintenance is so critical. Our professionals will look at your air conditioner thoroughly and make sure the electric is working as it should, the coils and filters are clean and so much more. We take a close look to catch smaller problems before they become big breakdowns and turn in to an AC repair appointment.
