The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants.

Stored in your air conditioner’s coils, refrigerants are liquids that cool and dehumidify your air. If we didn’t have refrigerants, we wouldn’t have air conditioning. For years, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will be illegal to produce R-22 because of its negative effects on the environment.

Introducing R-410A

R-410ATo lessen environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now designed to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and is free of chlorine, which means it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel at ease using this refrigerant in Lexington because it’ll help make your AC work efficiently, reliably and quietly, and provide the same cool comfort in the warmer months.

Additional Considerations

If your AC or heat pump was made prior to 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You may want to investigate upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is ultimately phased out. The old refrigerant will become rare in the next few years, costing you more to use your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at James Heating & A/C, Inc work with R-410A, so you can be sure we have an AC or heat pump more suited to your needs. Be sure to avoid”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
